January Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my January writing update. These are just posts that I try and write once a month to talk about what I’ve been working on and doing recently.

I haven’t written one of these updates for a while because I was trying my best to focus all my writing efforts into finishing my current story “Memories of a Soul in the Underworld.” I also went back to my hometown for New Year vacation, in which I completely switched off and didn’t write a thing. Sorry guys. I also had the chance to stop by Beijing and Sydney, so here are a few of my best pictures.

I did actually take all my written notes with me on holiday in the hope that I’d write something, but Sydney hotels were so ridiculously expensive that I decided to camp. It was actually so hot in my tent, (or somewhere on the road) that the heat actually erased some of my notes that I’d written in Frixion pen. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I actually managed to faintly recover them by sticking my notebook in the freezer, but it’s defiantly going to take me a lot longer to write the next few chapters of “Memories of a Soul in the Underworld,” so I apologise for any slow updates. I already have a draft of the next few chapters written out by hand, but I have to work a few weekends over the next few months in order to save money (gotta pay off that holiday somehow) so I’ll try my best to finish the next chapter when I get the chance.

I, like half the planet, recently saw the new Star Wars movie. I like it so much that I saw it twice. Then spent days reading about it on Tumblr like some strange addiction that I couldn’t break. I feel like watching that movie has ruined my life, because I've now become obsessed with it.

(SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT)

I heard that a lot of people didn’t like it, so I went into the movie with pretty low expectations. The Force Awakens just seemed too much like A New Hope, so I thought they’d pull something predictable and make Rey some famous person’s daughter while Kylo was all emo in the background. But I actually enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. To be honest I spent most of the movie thinking that Kylo and Rey, may have been related , and once they started talking through the force I thought that it may have been some strange Luke and Leia like connection, but I really like the way that they decided to unveil Rey’s family of being people with no importance, and that her value came as who she was on her own.

I also wasn’t a big fan of Kylo Ren for the first movie, and I thought his character was a little emo and lame. I was so certain that they were setting him up to be a new Dath Vader like character, but I loved the way that Adam Driver portrayed him in TLJ. It was really great and you could really begin to sympathise with Kylo Ren.
It took me an hour or so after watching the movie to realise that Rey and Kylo Ren really did look like they were into each other, and it makes me wonder if the next movie hopes to set up any romance between the two of them, or just move onto something else. To be honest I’m hoping for the romance, even though I’d be completely against one of my friends ever dating a guy like that in real life. I’m really looking forward to the next movie, and it’s going to take all my self control to stop myself looking up spoilers and production news.

Shameless ad for a product I do actually care about.

Want to read more books? Why not invest in an Amazon Kindle? It works out cheaper then buying paperbacks, it takes up  less space, and you can buy and read books instantly from wherever you live in the world. The special screen also won't burn your eyes out. I highly recommend one.
