How I was Murdered by a Fox Monster Chapter 6

They say life flashes before you in that moment before death. I could see it all reflected in the blade. I was standing under the cherry blossoms at my school entrance ceremony, eating cake at my sister's wedding, standing outside praying the monster wouldn't come tonight. I might not be dead yet but I can see what's coming, this is the story of how I was murdered by a fox monster!

Chapter 6

I followed Kurumi to the edge of town where there was nothing but trees. We ran until the cement path became dirt and pebbles.

I thought she would have heard my footsteps pounding behind her, but she was too engrossed in her destination. Every now and again she would pull out her cell phone and quickly glance at the screen before dashing off again.

We kept running until I could hear the voices of the other exorcists from somewhere beyond the trees.

“I don't know what you're waiting for, let's just attack now,” came the obnoxious voice of Itsuki.

“No, we should wait for it to make the first move, we don't know what we're dealing with,” said Taisei.

“You're just scared because the last one took a chunk out of your arm,” Itsuki replied.

Kurumi picked up speed and I wasn't far behind, within a matter of seconds she burst through the trees and was out in an open field. I decided things would be best if I didn't draw attention, so I hung back and hid myself behind a bush. I pushed the branches apart and peeked through the leaves to get a better view. The rest of the exorcists were already there. Taisei, Nina, Mana, Itsuki, Kiyori, and Souta were gathered around in a circle staring at something I couldn't see.

“Kurumi, thank god you're here!” Yelled Taisei

“Someone was late. Was there a sale at the mall?”

“Shut your face Itsuki!”

How I was Murdered by a Fox Monster Chapter 5

Summary: They say life flashes before you in that moment before death.

Chapter 5

I discovered there were seven exorcists at school. There were Itsuki and Mana, who were both in my class. Kiyori (the big guy) and Souta (the awkward one with curly hair) were both in second year. The blonde girl Kurumi, and Taisei (who seemed like their leader) were both in third. Nina was also in third year. She wasn't at school the day I met the other exorcists, but I saw her once in the hall. She looks a lot like Sis, but I'll tell you more about that later.

Everyone seemed to find Souta annoying, but he was the only one who was willing to tell me anything. Whenever I talked to the others they'd freeze up and tell me to go away, but Souta let the secrets spill like there was no tomorrow.

"Obake are animal spirits which live in the natural world," he explained to me as we walked through the school hallway together.

"I know that already," I said while remembering the stories Grandpa told me as a child. "What else?"

"Hmm, Obake usually pretend to be different animals and then transform back into monsters and eat humans. Lots of murders are actually done by Obake instead of people. No one thinks that the cute kitty they find on the street is going to eat them when their back is turned."

"I knew it!" I didn't feel so stupid anymore for treating every animal with caution as a child.

"But different types of Obake often disguise themselves as the same animal, so you never know what you're going to get until it unveils itself. Sometimes it's just a talking cat, or a giant cat with massive claws, or a half cat half person thing. It makes exorcising really hard. When I started we had to run away a lot, but now Taisei and Kurumi are pretty good, and Itsuki is probably the best."

"Itsuki," I snorted. I could feel my anger begin to rise. I'd made a few attempts to be nice to the guy, but he ignored me completely. "I don't get it, why is that Itsuki guy such an arse all the time?"

"Don't worry about Itsuki, he's still mad about having to go to this school. Itsuki actually made it in to a really good high school, but they refused to let him go. He's been angry since then."

"Still, that's no excuse to be a dick to everyone," I muttered.

"Don't say that, Itsuki's a really loyal friend. He might be angry now, but he's normally fun to hang around with."

November Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my first writing update in a while. These are usually small posts that I do one a month to talk about my recent writing progress, what I've been working on, as well as what's been going on inside my head.

My regular job  (unrelated to writing) has been pretty busy recently, so I haven't done a writing update for a few months. I currently have one full time job, another part-time job, and then I do my writing whenever I get the chance. I've recently started writing more by hand too, which obviously takes a lot of time.

I know that in my last post I promised to continue Tales from a Land of Gods, but my
feedback about the story has been pretty dismal so I've decided to put in on hold for a while. If you like the story and would like to see more new chapters, please feel free to leave some feedback in the comments section. It would help me a lot. I have written a lot of notes about the third part, so I would like to release a few chapters online sometime.

I've recently decided to write a free story called Diary of a Soul.
It's actually a story that I've had in my head for a long time, and I did begin writing it many years ago, but I thought it was a little dark and heavy so I decided to write How I was Murdered by a Fox Monster first instead.
This new story is about a guy who sold his soul and now exists in the Underworld with no memories of his previous life. He reflects on his life in the Underworld while running away from the beings who enslaved him.
All the chapters I've written are free on Booksie, Fictionpress, and you can also read them online on this website here. I even compiled chapters 1-10 into a free ebook that you can download here too.
