March Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my March writing update. These are posts that I do about once a month to talk about what I've been working on recently and my current writing progress.

Like always my job has been busy this month. I worked a few extra days on the weekend so that I could save some more money, but I finally finished driving school. I have never been into driving so it's difficult to believe that I can actually drive a car now. I spent ten minutes staring at that card after they handed it to me.

My main writing priority at the moment is my story "Diary of a Soul in the Underworld," so I've been working on that whenever I get free time. I usually write the first draught out by paper and then type it (there are less mistakes) so I've already finished writing out the next few chapters by hand. Writing a few chapters ahead and then typing it up a few weeks later also gives me some time to think about what I've written, and I often change things from the original draft.

I really want to try drawing out some of the scenes for myself and adding them into the story (to make a kind of picture and narrative blend), but I'm only capable of drawing strange looking cartoons for elementary children so it's more challenging than I originally expected. You can read this story for free online here.

I recently made these character introduction pages for my story "How I was Murdered by a Fox Monster." The story has been on Amazon for a while now, but I feel like the story may be difficult if you haven't read the first book so I made this pages to make it easier for people to understand. You can check out the pictures at this page here, or you can look at them on the free Amazon preview.

I've currently been thinking of ways to try and make the story more interesting and I'm thinking of adding more photos into the Kindle version of How I was Murdered by a Fox Monster. There are some many interesting things that you can do with Kindle ebooks these days and I hope to make the most of it.

I'm not sure if there will be a third book any time soon, but there are a few extra stories that I would like to write so I plan to write some chapter that come after the second book, post them online here for free, and then see how that goes.

I actually managed to get over 200 free downloads of How I was Murdered by a Monster King last month so my ebook actually went to number one in its category in the Kindle store.  It was pretty exciting to be number one in something, but realistically it's difficult to make sales. Out of 200 hundred downloads only one person went on to purchase a book a leave a review. I often feel like I've been giving hundreds and hundreds of free copies away with very little to show for it in return.

Getting Amazon reviews is not easy and Amazon has strict policies and will flag your account if they "suspect" that your reviews were done by people you know. So far the most successful free way of getting reviews (I know) is to join review swap Facebook groups and do trades fellow authors, but even that may get you flagged if your reviews are too biased of Amazon finds out that you're Facebook friends. I really suggest trying to do swaps with people who are willing to read and review your book seriously.

How I was Murdered by a Fox Monster

They say life flashes before you in that moment before death. I could see it all reflected in the blade. I was standing under the cherry blossoms at my school entrance ceremony, eating cake at my sister's wedding, standing outside praying the monster wouldn't come tonight. I might not be dead yet but I can see what's coming, this is the story of how I was murdered by a fox monster!
