April Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my April writing update. These are posts that I do every few months to talk about what I’ve been writing recently among other things.

It’s been a few months since my last writing update. I’ve decided to dedicate whatever writing time I have towards working on Memories of a Soul in the Underworld so I haven’t written any writing updates for a while. I spend most of my time working my main job, or sitting in front of a computer editing my story, so my life really isn’t that exciting at all. It would probably bore you to tears.

As I mentioned before I’m now currently working on Memories of a Soul in the Underworld. (you can read the first 50 chapters online here) I do have an ending, and I hope to bring and end to the story around chapter 53. To be honest, I think that Ethan’s journey is not over, and he still has many challenges to overcome, but the story is already over 90,000 words and it’s gotten to a point where I can end the first part with some meaning. I hope to end it for now, and then maybe come back and write more at a later date.

January Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my January writing update. These are just posts that I try and write once a month to talk about what I’ve been working on and doing recently.

I haven’t written one of these updates for a while because I was trying my best to focus all my writing efforts into finishing my current story “Memories of a Soul in the Underworld.” I also went back to my hometown for New Year vacation, in which I completely switched off and didn’t write a thing. Sorry guys. I also had the chance to stop by Beijing and Sydney, so here are a few of my best pictures.

I did actually take all my written notes with me on holiday in the hope that I’d write something, but Sydney hotels were so ridiculously expensive that I decided to camp. It was actually so hot in my tent, (or somewhere on the road) that the heat actually erased some of my notes that I’d written in Frixion pen. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I actually managed to faintly recover them by sticking my notebook in the freezer, but it’s defiantly going to take me a lot longer to write the next few chapters of “Memories of a Soul in the Underworld,” so I apologise for any slow updates. I already have a draft of the next few chapters written out by hand, but I have to work a few weekends over the next few months in order to save money (gotta pay off that holiday somehow) so I’ll try my best to finish the next chapter when I get the chance.

November Writing update

Hello and welcome to my November writing update. These are post that I try and do once a month to talk about what I'm currently working on, as well as my attempts at self-promotion and selling ebooks.

Sorry for the delay in this writing update. I decided to dedicate any writing time I had to trying to finish my story, so I decided to skip doing them for a little while. I also recently went back to working one of my part-time jobs which I do on public holidays and weekends (the world is cruel and I need more cash) so I haven't had as much time for writing as I would like.
As great as the experience and money is, I find my current workload overwhelming at times, physically and mentally, so I hope to quit it sometime next year and give myself some more free time.

As for my writing, I'm currently still working on my free story Memories of a Soul in the Underworld. You can read it for free online here. At the moment I've been focusing more on trying to just finish it, than lamenting over every single chapter, or what I've written so far. There are still some scenes and conversations in previous chapters that I'm not so please with, so I could like to one day go back and fix them. I also want to try working on the first chapter more to make it more exciting and do a better job of drawing the reader in.

I recently made a new cover. You can see it here on the left. I can't really afford to pay someone to make the cover for me, and stock photos are also expensive, so I drew the picture and designed it myself. I'm no good at actual art, so I decided to aim for abstract art. I'm pretty happy with the current result, but I may end up changing my mind again after a few months.

Feel free to let me know what you think in the comments section.

April Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my April writing update. These are short posts that I do once a month to talk about what I've been working on recently among other things.

I recently had a three month vacation from work so I managed to write lots of new content for my free story Diary of a Soul in the Underworld.

You can check out all the latest chapters here.

Unfortunately I had to go back to work (damn those adult responsibilities) so most of my updates will go back to being just once or twice a month.

I would like to thank everyone who liked or retweeted some of my updates. You may think that just clicking like or retweet may not do much, but it actually helps me out a lot, and helps drive new readers to my work.

It's been over ten months since I first started Diary of a Soul, so I recently started going back to edit the earlier chapters. I found some mistakes that I over looked before.

March Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my March writing update. These are posts that I do about once a month to talk about what I've been working on recently and my current writing progress.

Like always my job has been busy this month. I worked a few extra days on the weekend so that I could save some more money, but I finally finished driving school. I have never been into driving so it's difficult to believe that I can actually drive a car now. I spent ten minutes staring at that card after they handed it to me.

My main writing priority at the moment is my story "Diary of a Soul in the Underworld," so I've been working on that whenever I get free time. I usually write the first draught out by paper and then type it (there are less mistakes) so I've already finished writing out the next few chapters by hand. Writing a few chapters ahead and then typing it up a few weeks later also gives me some time to think about what I've written, and I often change things from the original draft.

I really want to try drawing out some of the scenes for myself and adding them into the story (to make a kind of picture and narrative blend), but I'm only capable of drawing strange looking cartoons for elementary children so it's more challenging than I originally expected. You can read this story for free online here.

January Writing Update

Happy New Year Everyone! I hope that 2017 will be a good year. :) These are small writing updates that I do once a month to talk about what I've been working on recently, and my own experiences of trying to self-publish without spending tones of money.

Recently I've mainly been working one my free story Diary of a Soul in the Underworld. (You can read all the chapters I've done so far here.) My current goal is to try and finish it before I write anything else, and it's been taking me a little longer than I originally expected.

It's a story that has been in my head for a long time, so I won't be satisfied until it's finished. I've currently been writing it chapter by chapter and posting it on free fiction websites such as Booksie and Fictionpress.net. I guess one of the reasons why I decided to write and post this story chapter by chapter was because I thought it would motivate me to keep going. I regally loose my motivation to write (about once a month) so I thought that it would be better to at least have part of the story out there for people to read while I wallow in despair.

November Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my first writing update in a while. These are usually small posts that I do one a month to talk about my recent writing progress, what I've been working on, as well as what's been going on inside my head.

My regular job  (unrelated to writing) has been pretty busy recently, so I haven't done a writing update for a few months. I currently have one full time job, another part-time job, and then I do my writing whenever I get the chance. I've recently started writing more by hand too, which obviously takes a lot of time.

I know that in my last post I promised to continue Tales from a Land of Gods, but my
feedback about the story has been pretty dismal so I've decided to put in on hold for a while. If you like the story and would like to see more new chapters, please feel free to leave some feedback in the comments section. It would help me a lot. I have written a lot of notes about the third part, so I would like to release a few chapters online sometime.

I've recently decided to write a free story called Diary of a Soul.
It's actually a story that I've had in my head for a long time, and I did begin writing it many years ago, but I thought it was a little dark and heavy so I decided to write How I was Murdered by a Fox Monster first instead.
This new story is about a guy who sold his soul and now exists in the Underworld with no memories of his previous life. He reflects on his life in the Underworld while running away from the beings who enslaved him.
All the chapters I've written are free on Booksie, Fictionpress, and you can also read them online on this website here. I even compiled chapters 1-10 into a free ebook that you can download here too.

June Writing Update and Tales From A Land of Gods Part 3 Update!

Hello and welcome to my June writing update, these are small posts that I do once a month to talk about my current writing progress and what I’ve been working on recently. If you haven’t noticed I have changed my website design. I regularly get tried of starting at the same website so I decided to change it up a bit.

I’ve recently been working full time with some study on the side (I need to level up in life) so I don’t have as much time to write as I would like. It’s pretty easy to give away my stories for free these days, but selling them is a whole other matter and I often find myself in what I call promotion hell. I keep promoting and promoting but I can’t seem to get anywhere unless I pay ridiculous amounts of money. Therefore I can’t really live off writing at the moment and I also have to work a few jobs on the side to live.

I’ve recently decided to write Tales From A Land Of Gods Part Three. I’m not sure if it’s a wise idea and I may end up giving myself a mental breakdown, but I currently have enough material and ideas to write a third part so I decided to just go ahead and do it. If it doesn’t do well and I can’t make any sales I’ll probably just roll over, give up on the series, and then try my luck writing something else. The third part will feature a confrontation between Meng Li and The Kingdom without Gods. Who will be victorious, Meng or the kingdom? Obviously I already know the answer but you will have to wait until I finish writing it to find out.
In the meantime you can check out the previous part Khan and the Kingdom Without Gods here on Smashwords. https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/638025

It’s also free for people with Amazon Unlimited or Prime https://amzn.com/B01FZ16UMK

Please grab a copy while you have the chance, and then leave a review. Leaving a review is a great way to support me as an author and help me make more sales. It also gives me the will to write.

May Writing Update, Tales From A Land Of Gods Two is now online!

Hello and welcome to my May writing update. These are little posts that I do about once a month to talk about my recent writing progress and what I’ve been doing recently. Today I discovered that my contact form hadn’t been working, so if you used it and I didn’t write back, please try emailing me again at mail.mcqueen@gmail.com I don`t have much time to write back recently, but I would love to hear from you guys.

I’ve recently returned to full time work so I haven’t had much time to do much writing. I had a few days off recently so I actually managed to finish Tales From A Land Of Gods Part Two. The new ebook is called. Khan and the Kingdom Without Gods and you can currently grab a free copy on Smashwords here.

https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/638025

I think that it is pretty great, and funny, so please try and give it a read.  I only just published it so I don`t have any reviews, so if you could help me out by writing a review on Smashwords or Goodreads that would be awesome. I currently need all the help I can get if I want to encourage more people to try reading my work.

April Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my April writing update. These are little updates that I write once a month to talk about what I've been writing recently and how my life is going.

I had a two month vacation in between contracts so I managed to get tones if writing done, but I had to return to full time work so my chances to write are going to drastically decrease 。゚(゚´Д`゚)゚. I enjoy my job so it's not such a bad thing, and I work with lots if different people so I can often draw inspiration from the different people that I meet, but I probably won't have anything new out for a while. ;_;

I also have to speak Chinese for work, so I’ve been spending a lot of time studying Mandarin and taking lessons recently. My job doesn’t actually have anything to do with speaking Chinese, but I’m the only one there who can speak some so they keep asking me to translate. Sometimes it’s really ridiculously difficult stuff that I’d have enough trouble trying to explain in English. I actually like studying Mandarin and I think that it’s a very useful language, so therefore I’ve continued gradually studying it until now.

On a more positive note I've done lots of work for Tales from a Land of Gods Part Two and I'm probably over 80 percent finished. I hope to even have a preview out soon. Just like part one, part two will probably be about fifty pages long once I’m finished.
I actually do have a long term plan for this story and I'm not making it up as I go along. My strategy for the series at the moment is to just write small parts, and if they sell well I'll work more on developing the series, if not I'll try my luck at writing something else and see how that goes.

February Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my February writing update. These are small blog entries that I write once a month to talk about my current writing progress and other things. Please feel free to give them a read and check out my stories. Many of them are currently free to read and download.

I've recently returned to work after the Christmas vacation so I didn't have much time for writing last month. I am currently busy editing my most recent story The Monster Exorcist: New Foes. (You can check out some free sample chapters here) I have finally finished writing the whole story, but I want to edit the first few chapter more to make it easier for people who are not familiar with the story to understand it.

January Update

Hello and welcome to my January update. These are regular blog posts that I write once a month to talk about my recent writing progress amongst other things. I recently changed my website design because I wanted something a little less generic. Some of you might think it's a little girly, but I feel that it correctly represents my soul.

I had a lot of free time over my Christmas vacation so I managed to get plenty of writing done. I have now almost finished writing The Monster Exorcist: New Foes and I'm busy editing what I've already writing. I’m still working on the end. I’m not very good at writing long dramatic fight scenes, so there are still a few scenes at the end that need a lot of work. I've been writing it for so long now that it's not as fun to write as it used to be, but I've vowed to finish it before I start any new stories. You can currently read the first few chapters here.

When I began writing this second part to my story back in the summer of 2014 I was sure that it would only take me a year or so. Unfortunately I encountered some financial setbacks which required me to work a second and third job to make more money. It’s a pain to spend so long just writing the same story, but on the plus side I had a lot longer to think about it, so I believe that there’s many interesting and exciting news scenes which wouldn’t be there if I had just rushed through writing it.

December Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my December writing update. You may be reading this because you’ve taken interest in my work, or maybe you’re just giving it a read because you’re interested in the life of someone inspiring to be author. Either way, I hope that you can try reading my latest story.

I’ve currently been writing out the final chapter in my story The Monster Exorcist: New Foes. It has been taking a lot of work, and I’m not very good at writing battle scenes. I have to play out all my battle scenes move by move like a choreographer and it takes a long time. I really want the final part to be exciting, so I have been rewriting it many times until I feel that it matches what I have pictured in my head or better.

One of the reasons that it’s been taking so long to finish the story is because my writing method is very slow, so today I would like to take some time to talk about how I write stories. My method is probably one of the slowest ways to write a story on the face of the planet, so please don’t feel like you have to copy me.

November Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my November writing update. I actually started writing this post way back in October but I didn’t have time to finish it until recently. I’m sorry that there haven’t been any updates for a while now. I haven’t had much time to write recently due to work, and work after work, and work on weekends. It’s a little depressing and I would like to cut back in order to concentrate more on writing, but I need to pay my rent. I’m still working hard towards finishing my story The Monster Exorcist but there are just so many other commitments. I guess it’s all just part of being a responsible adult.

If you hadn’t already noticed I posted some great free previews for my next story The Monster Exorcist: New Foes. When writing the story I did try and make it easy for people who haven't read the first book, so please give it a go even if you haven’t read “The Monster Exorcist.” I hope that you can enjoy it, and any feedback would also be great.

I originally wrote The Monster Exorcist as a slightly different story called How I was Murdered by a Fox Monster. I received many emails asking about part 2, so I made a special version for those fans which you can download or read online here.

September Writing Update and The Monster Exorcist character talk.

Hello! I'd like to thank you all for taking the time to read my latest update. I had some vacation time which I used to write, but I just returned to work so I haven't had much time to write recently.

I would like to quickly mention my previous post about someone using my story How I was Murdered by a Fox Monster (now renamed The Monster Exorcist) to make printed books on Createspace. I know that this has become a common way of making money recently, but I have no idea how they expect to make money from it if they are charging more than me, and their cover design is terrible. I warn you not to pay money for any stories that are not writen by me, M.C.Queen. You can also find the legitimate product links on this website if you are concerned about being ripped off.

Hopefully you have check out my latest Monster Exorcist previews (You can find them here), and today I would like to talk about some of the new characters. As you may know back-up from the main branch came to aid the characters, but most of them had already gone home by the time Michael came too. This leaves just Comander Sebastian Williams, and his assistants Nina's brother and Hugo.

August Update

So far I've finished the first half of The Monster Exorcist 2 and I am now currently working on the second half. I already have a ruff idea about how it's going to end and the events that are going to happen, but I still need to think over my timeline and write the scenes. I'm going to be releasing the first few chapters for free gradually over the next few months, so please keep a look out. You can already read the first chapter here.

The Monster Exorcist 2 is not the end and there will defiantly be a part three and maybe part four before the story will come to a close. There are still many situations and obstacles that the characters need to go through before I can bring the story to an end. I already have a final ending, and it's still a long way off.
