Memories of a Soul in the Underworld Chapter Two.

Story Summary

Ethan is a soul in the Underworld with no memory of his life on Earth. He is bought and sold by various masters for centuries. Traveling from large industrial towns to scorching hot deserts. During his journey he picks up the skills, knowledge and magic to escape his enslavement. He runs with the intent of living a free life, but is pursued by agents until he's cornered on a remote mountain range. With little time left, Ethan begins to recount his life and masters in the hope of leaving a record of his existence. These are his memories.

So many years have passed that my memories have become vague and foggy, but some events and people stand out above others. One of them being my first master.
The man was an overindulged aristocrat who went by the name Alistair. He may have looked like a thin young man in his early twenties, with gleaming long blond hair and a wicked smile, but that sneaky playboy must have been over two hundred.
Such an age was something he obtained through demonic magic.
Unlike me, Alistair came from a well renowned family that had money to waste on an expensive academy for their precious only son. There he mastered over one thousand magic spells, including the one for immortality.
"How fortunate you are," said his overweight carriage driver on one of my first days in Hell. "Most guys round these parts treat their soul slaves like trash. But Master Alistair's a decent bloke, and immortal. You're set for the rest of eternity without having to suffer like those unfortunates out there." He pointed to the street outside.

June Writing Update and Tales From A Land of Gods Part 3 Update!

Hello and welcome to my June writing update, these are small posts that I do once a month to talk about my current writing progress and what I’ve been working on recently. If you haven’t noticed I have changed my website design. I regularly get tried of starting at the same website so I decided to change it up a bit.

I’ve recently been working full time with some study on the side (I need to level up in life) so I don’t have as much time to write as I would like. It’s pretty easy to give away my stories for free these days, but selling them is a whole other matter and I often find myself in what I call promotion hell. I keep promoting and promoting but I can’t seem to get anywhere unless I pay ridiculous amounts of money. Therefore I can’t really live off writing at the moment and I also have to work a few jobs on the side to live.

I’ve recently decided to write Tales From A Land Of Gods Part Three. I’m not sure if it’s a wise idea and I may end up giving myself a mental breakdown, but I currently have enough material and ideas to write a third part so I decided to just go ahead and do it. If it doesn’t do well and I can’t make any sales I’ll probably just roll over, give up on the series, and then try my luck writing something else. The third part will feature a confrontation between Meng Li and The Kingdom without Gods. Who will be victorious, Meng or the kingdom? Obviously I already know the answer but you will have to wait until I finish writing it to find out.
In the meantime you can check out the previous part Khan and the Kingdom Without Gods here on Smashwords. https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/638025

It’s also free for people with Amazon Unlimited or Prime https://amzn.com/B01FZ16UMK

Please grab a copy while you have the chance, and then leave a review. Leaving a review is a great way to support me as an author and help me make more sales. It also gives me the will to write.

Memories of a Soul in the Underworld Chapter 1

Story Summary

Long ago I sold my soul and doomed myself to an eternity in the Underworld. I was treated like a slave for centuries, but no more! I'll find a way out of this destiny or die trying!

Today I continued the never ending trek over hazardous mountains, and damn snow that comes up to my knees. There isn't much else in this desolate wasteland. Every dull white valley and frozen field looks the same to me now, so there's been nothing worth writing about.

Until today.

I've been careful to avoid all villages and towns like the plague. Thinking of myself as a ghost who haunts this depressing wasteland and leaves nothing behind. But today I ran into my first living being in weeks.

It was an elderly mortal man with long white hair blowing wildly behind him in the wind. Covered from head to foot in several layers of mismatched woollen clothes like a street beggar. Waddling through the deep snow with a slight limp on his right side.

I was too caught up in past regrets and memories of dead people, to notice his approach, so I didn't see him coming until it was already too late.

I suppose that I could have fled. I should have fled. But he was already there, and I was so certain that I could crawl myself out of that shitty situation without running.

I quickly covered my face with my tatty hood, hunched over, and stumbled like my back was permanently bent. My barely covered feet tried to subtly veer away from my new foe, but the sharp cliff on my left side, that overlooked a murderous drop, meant that I had to watch in terror as he slowly wobbled closer and closer.

At last his crumbling body was before my own.

I lowered my head further to hide my ghostly complexion, and nodded like a real mortal to acknowledge the old fool. I even went one step further and croaked a strained "good morning," because that's how damn kind and generous I am.

The old mortal mumbled a quiet "hello" and continued on his way.

I was so sure that my superb acting skills and centuries of experience had fooled him-

But then that shitty old mortal spun around on his crippled feet and looked back.

There was no denying that he'd realized that something wasn't right about me and my shoddy potato sack coat. His beady little eyes examining me from head to foot.

Perhaps the mortal was only interested in a stranger who was wandering these lifeless fields, but my overly paranoid mind screamed out that I'd been exposed!

I quickly hobbled away, then sprinted as soon as the old fool was out of sight. Scampering over large rocks until night fell.

I pray that I'm safe in this deep dark hole that I've dug for myself.

But perhaps there was a time long ago when this vagrant lifestyle of running and hiding was completely unimaginable. Back in the days when I still lived on Earth.

I can't tell you why I sold my soul. None of us can. But what could possibly be worth agreeing to spend an eternity in the Underworld? Just like countless others, I was auctioned like an object, treated like a slave, and forced to do unspeakable things for several corrupt mortals.

I may have escaped my last master, but my problems are far from over. After weeks of running, I've had no choice but to escape to the most desolate and remote place in Hell.

Hades Teeth.

Here the snow falls for hours without end, and strong winds howl across jagged mountain peaks. I often lose my way as the nights grow longer. Giving me no choice but to seek shelter until sunrise.

But I curse every minute that I have to remain in the same place.

There's no time for this troublesome snow.

I may not have much time left at all.

Day by day my hope slowly diminishes. The foolish confidence I had before is almost gone. How can I possibly achieve freedom when every soul before me has failed? How can I keep my broken mind sane?

That's why I must record everything while I still have the chance.

I may have foolishly wasted decades by giving in to blind servitude, but others shouldn't repeat my mistakes. Other souls should know of my journey. The places I went, the things I went through, the knowledge that I plundered from this world.

I suppose that I should start from the beginning, or in my case, the only beginning that I know. To me, life began on the day that I arrived at the home of my very first master. A weirdo who foolishly deluded me into thinking that Hell wasn't such a bad place.

Khan And The Kingdom Without Gods Free Preview

Hello and welcome to a free preview of my next story. Khan And The Kingdom Without Gods. It's the second part of my ongoing series Tales From A Land Of Gods. I've been working on it everyday so I hope to get it finished soon.

You can check out the first part. Tales From A Land Of Gods here http://mcqueenwrites.blogspot.jp/p/tales-from-land-of-gods.html

Prologue

Back again aren't you? I knew you wouldn’t stay away for long. The Land of Gods is too mysterious and intriguing to be easily ignored.
What is the Land of Gods? You ask. Well, obviously you’re another one of those naive souls who have no idea about the world so close to your own, so allow me to enlighten you.
Millenniums ago our world was ruled by gods. A smart looking person like you has no doubt heard the stories of ancient Greek and Egyptian gods. These countless legends have been passed down through the ages and even a child can name at least one. You may have brushed these stories off as make believe fairytales, but I’m here to tell you that the gods are real.
Now, now, there’s no need to make a face like that. Of course there aren't any gods bossing you around, but your ancestors suffered for centuries under the god’s merciless rule. These gods may have been majestic and powerful, but just like us humans they bickered and fought until they descended into a civil war. Those were dark days, but the fighting finally ceased when the older gods trapped their younger adversaries on one continent and sealed the land away forever. Just imagine a giant island the size of Australia suddenly disappearing into thin air. This place still exists of course, but in a dimension far removed from our own. Some call it an impenetrable prison from which there is no escape, and you can count yourself fortunate that none of these gods will ever come looking for you.

April Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my April writing update. These are little updates that I write once a month to talk about what I've been writing recently and how my life is going.

I had a two month vacation in between contracts so I managed to get tones if writing done, but I had to return to full time work so my chances to write are going to drastically decrease 。゚(゚´Д`゚)゚. I enjoy my job so it's not such a bad thing, and I work with lots if different people so I can often draw inspiration from the different people that I meet, but I probably won't have anything new out for a while. ;_;

I also have to speak Chinese for work, so I’ve been spending a lot of time studying Mandarin and taking lessons recently. My job doesn’t actually have anything to do with speaking Chinese, but I’m the only one there who can speak some so they keep asking me to translate. Sometimes it’s really ridiculously difficult stuff that I’d have enough trouble trying to explain in English. I actually like studying Mandarin and I think that it’s a very useful language, so therefore I’ve continued gradually studying it until now.

On a more positive note I've done lots of work for Tales from a Land of Gods Part Two and I'm probably over 80 percent finished. I hope to even have a preview out soon. Just like part one, part two will probably be about fifty pages long once I’m finished.
I actually do have a long term plan for this story and I'm not making it up as I go along. My strategy for the series at the moment is to just write small parts, and if they sell well I'll work more on developing the series, if not I'll try my luck at writing something else and see how that goes.

Short Story: Earnest Young Is Forever Young

Hello here is a short story about that I wrote about vampires three years ago but I only just edited it recently. I hope that you can enjoy it.

Summary: Earnest Young is a struggling artist living in poverty in the 1920s. His only hope at salvation is the mysterious vampire Mr.Wright who he discovered living next door.

"No, no, I won't do it, no more!" Cried a young blond man as he trudged through the snow. His skin was pale, his fingers bony, and his eyes were sunken in from lack of sleeping.

But what drew the attention of all who walked by, was not his fatigue or neglected appearance, it was his lack of shoes on that freezing winter's night. He was dressed only in a thin pair of pants, a crisp white shirt, and his feet lacked anything to prevent frostbite. But to the horror and amazement of all, instead of freezing from the cold and curling up into a ball to shiver, the man easily bulldozed through the snow like it was the middle of summer.

"No, no, absolutely not!” He wailed as he pushed through the crowd of workers returning home. Onlookers stopped to stare at the man who should have been frozen before they brushed off the spectacle and returned on their way.

"Why, why not?" Yelled Earnest, as he fought through the crowd to catch up with the blond man. "Why won't you turn me into a vampire?"

At the word vampire, the man stopped and froze like he'd been stabbed in the back, and Earnest used this opportunity to catch a must needed breath. Earnest bent over and grabbed his knees for support. His chest burned like fire and frantically moved up and down. Unlike the man before him, Earnest was wearing every piece of clothing he owned, which still wasn't enough to keep out the cruel winter cold. His coat was worn and covered with holes, and his shoes and pants were a sight to behold. Earnest's clothing wasn't the only thing in need of attention. His short brown hair was messy and unkempt, and his sea blue eyes were tired and drained. It wasn't unusual for this boy of nineteen to be mistaken for an older man without any home.

"When will you leave me alone?" Asked the vampire who oozed sadness. "Why is it always you who follows me home?"

"Please Mr. Wright," begged Earnest. "I ask only one thing, please make me a vampire so that I can escape this dreadful mortality."

"Don't call me that!" Boomed the vampire. "I'm not Mr. Wright. That's the name of the man who I killed in order to rest my head in the daylight!"

"Then how should I address you?" Asked Earnest with a hint of hope. "It's only fitting that I know the name of the man who shall deliver me into immortality."

"Immortality, you say," said the vampire with a chuckle. "You treat my curse like it's something desirable."

"It's not a curse Mr. Wright," said Earnest and he saw the vampire flinch. "The way I see it, it's more like a gift from heaven. There's no need to worry about money or age, and it apparently protects you from this blistering cold."
