January Writing Update

Hello and welcome to my January writing update. These are just posts that I try and write once a month to talk about what I’ve been working on and doing recently.

I haven’t written one of these updates for a while because I was trying my best to focus all my writing efforts into finishing my current story “Memories of a Soul in the Underworld.” I also went back to my hometown for New Year vacation, in which I completely switched off and didn’t write a thing. Sorry guys. I also had the chance to stop by Beijing and Sydney, so here are a few of my best pictures.

I did actually take all my written notes with me on holiday in the hope that I’d write something, but Sydney hotels were so ridiculously expensive that I decided to camp. It was actually so hot in my tent, (or somewhere on the road) that the heat actually erased some of my notes that I’d written in Frixion pen. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I actually managed to faintly recover them by sticking my notebook in the freezer, but it’s defiantly going to take me a lot longer to write the next few chapters of “Memories of a Soul in the Underworld,” so I apologise for any slow updates. I already have a draft of the next few chapters written out by hand, but I have to work a few weekends over the next few months in order to save money (gotta pay off that holiday somehow) so I’ll try my best to finish the next chapter when I get the chance.

How I Was Murdered by a Fox Monster: Character Talk: The Late Daisuke Matsumoto

For my next character talk, I would like to talk about the late Daisuke Matsumoto and his role in my story How I Was Murdered by a Fox Monster even though he doesn’t make an appearance. This is a post that I actually wrote a few years ago, but I recently edited it and decided to post it again.

Book One Recap SPOILERS (You can find book one here!)

The late Daisuke Matsumoto was the son of Kousuke Matsumoto, Kanako’s older brother, and the older step brother of Daisuke Matsumoto who shares the same name.

He was an exorcist genius who was immensely talented and defeated countless monsters with ease. He became famous amongst exorcists around the world, and he really brought about a golden age for the exorcist organization.

He was strong studious and kind, but the truth behind that genius was that he was under immense pressure from his father Kousuke Matsumoto. Kousuke was injured by an S-level monster in his youth which left him incapable of battling high-level monsters. He instead forced his dreams and ambitions onto his only son. Daisuke Matsumoto was trained from birth by his father to become a great exorcist. Daisuke had very few talents that weren’t related to battling monsters, and even failed high school. His sister Kanako was also often forced to clean his room and wash his clothes so that her brother could spend more time training.

How I Was Murdered by a Fox Monster Character talk: Itsuki

This is a post that I actually wrote a few years ago about Itsuki, but I recently edited it and decided to post it again.

Book One Recap SPOILERS (You can find book one here!)

Itsuki was first introduced as Daisuke's rival in love for Mana and nemesis. He is rude, unfriendly, and sees Daisuke as a complete idiot who should have never been allowed to become an exorcist. Which is actually an accurate observation.

Part of his anger stems from not being allowed to go to the school that he wanted to. Although Itsuki is a great exorcist and excels at training, he has no desire to remain with the organisation and wants to distance himself as much as possible. Perhaps this desire to get out comes from some terrible event in his past. wink wink.

November Writing update

Hello and welcome to my November writing update. These are post that I try and do once a month to talk about what I'm currently working on, as well as my attempts at self-promotion and selling ebooks.

Sorry for the delay in this writing update. I decided to dedicate any writing time I had to trying to finish my story, so I decided to skip doing them for a little while. I also recently went back to working one of my part-time jobs which I do on public holidays and weekends (the world is cruel and I need more cash) so I haven't had as much time for writing as I would like.
As great as the experience and money is, I find my current workload overwhelming at times, physically and mentally, so I hope to quit it sometime next year and give myself some more free time.

As for my writing, I'm currently still working on my free story Memories of a Soul in the Underworld. You can read it for free online here. At the moment I've been focusing more on trying to just finish it, than lamenting over every single chapter, or what I've written so far. There are still some scenes and conversations in previous chapters that I'm not so please with, so I could like to one day go back and fix them. I also want to try working on the first chapter more to make it more exciting and do a better job of drawing the reader in.

I recently made a new cover. You can see it here on the left. I can't really afford to pay someone to make the cover for me, and stock photos are also expensive, so I drew the picture and designed it myself. I'm no good at actual art, so I decided to aim for abstract art. I'm pretty happy with the current result, but I may end up changing my mind again after a few months.

Feel free to let me know what you think in the comments section.

Photo of a statue amongst bamboo on a Japanese island

This is a statue that I photographed on a small island in central Japan. There were over eighty on the island. All with a number written above the statue. I realised after taking the picture that this statue’s number has a crack through the middle. Making it difficult to read and this statue more creepy.

How I was Murdered by a Fox Monster fixed version.

I recently had some time off from work in August, and I spent some time going through my first story How I was Murdered by a Fox Monster  and fixed some of the typos and mistakes that I unfortunately over looked in my first edit. I uploaded the fixed version about a month ago.

As for the story, I didn't change much. I originally wrote it in 2012 so most the characters had flip phones, (the smartphone boom hadn't quite hit Japan yet) so I changed them to smartphones to try and keep the story more relevant. Kiyori also had a few lines which didn't seem quite in character, and there were a few sentences of descriptions that I didn't think had to be there. Daisuke also spent too much time referring to his own death, so I decreased some of those references to try and give the story a better flow.

You can now grab the new updated version in the Amazon store on Kindle and Paperback. I also uploaded it to Smashwords.

Grab it here on Amazon

I honestly tried my best to fix everything, but I'm too poor to hire a copy writer and I often worry that I missed something. If you purchase this ebook, then discover any typos, mistakes, or errors, send me an email with details of the mistake, and I'll send you a free copy of my story Khan and the Kingdom without Gods.

Please send an email to mail.mcqueen@gmail.com with the subject found and error in How I was Murdered by a Fox Monster and I will send it out to you.

Final Fantasy X-2.5 ~Eien no Daishō~" A rough translation. Part 2

'
Part: 1, 2, 3

Disclaimer: I am not an official translator. I have a degree in Japanese, and lived in Japan for years, but I'm still not perfect. I'm going to try my best to translate all the dialogue, but there were some vague or difficult descriptions that I decided to skip, and sentences that I decided to swap for more natural English equivalents. I also added a few "he said, she said" to make it easier to tell who's speaking. Please think of this as a rough translation and don't treat it like it 100% accurate.

Please link back to this page if you use the information from the translation, and support Final Fantasy by buying the official translation if it becomes available.

Part: 1, 2, 3

The villagers had actually come out to meet Yuna who had been gone for a while. Tidus was of course welcomed by the one’s who knew him. Datto, Letty, Botta, Jassu, Keepa, from his old team, the Besaid Aurochs.

While happily meeting everyone again, Wakka enthusiastically held out a baby in his arms.

"This is my kid Vidina, isn’t he cute?"

"Yeah, but...um....who gave birth to him?"

"That would be me."

He heard a defiant voice from behind him. When he turned around the first thing he saw was a large bosom. It was Lulu.

“Still as beautiful as ever.”

Lulu laughed softly and took the baby from Wakka.

M.C.Queen Reads " Final Fantasy X-2.5 ~Eien no Daishō~" A rough translation. Part 1

Having recently finished Final Fantasy X, I was curious about what happened next in the story after Tidus returns. After some investigation I found out about the novel FFX2.5 which doesn't have an English translation. I decided to give the Japanese version ago, and I decided to write a rough translation of the story as I read, so that I can share what really happens with other Final Fantasy X fans.

Final Fantasy X-2.5 ~Eien no Daishō~

Boy's Side

Tidus was in the middle of darkness. Memories replay in his head. He saw both his mother and father. A man with long hair and a thin woman.

They were both gone.

His father disappeared one day, and then his mother died of loneliness. He remembered how much it hurt that day.
