How I was Murdered by a Monster King Chapter 6

Daisuke here. Last time we met I joined a secret organization of exorcists who hunt down evil monsters which are disguised as regular animals. My training was going great until a super powerful fox monster attacked and my teacher tried to kill me. Now my friends and the organization are accusing me of being a monster in human form, but that can’t be possible, can it?

Chapter 6

After a few weeks, Sis finally managed to convince Nina's brother and Hugo to let me return to school. My sister was smart enough to wait until Shinta stopped calling up everyday to check on me, and then she launched her counter attack. Nina's brother looked like he was going to cry, but Sis threatened to tell Shinta more of his embarrassing moments if he didn't let me go back to class. Akito also managed to convince them that I was probably safe.

"Nooooooo! You can't do this to me!" Begged Nina's brother as he clung to my sister's leg in desperation. "If anyone ever finds out, the best promotion I'll ever get will be the main branch janitor!"

"I hear they've been trying to find someone to clean the outside toilet for a while now," said Hugo. "Even the janitor won't touch it."

"Please, please, think of my career!" Nina's brother cried, but my sister refused to budge.

Unfortunately they left it up to Nina's brother to explain my long absence, so he told the school that I'd caught Ebola. I think he also realized that he might need to pull me out again (in case Shinta came back to check on them), so he told everyone that there was a high chance of me regressing.

I arrived at school on Monday to find that everyone had moved their desks as far away from mine as possible. My lonely desk looked like a remote island in a sea of tables and chairs. All my classmates were standing around in groups chatting with each other, but everyone suddenly fell silent and nervously watched when I entered the classroom. I thought school would be the one place where people would treat me like I was normal, but I suddenly felt more isolated than ever.

I trudged over to my desk, sadly pulled out the chair, and sat down. I could hear the guy sitting in the desk next to me trying to subtly move his desk away until it bumped into the wall.

How I was Murdered by a Monster King Chapter 5

Daisuke here. Last time we met I joined a secret organization of exorcists who hunt down evil monsters which are disguised as regular animals. My training was going great until a super powerful fox monster attacked and my teacher tried to kill me. Now my friends and the organization are accusing me of being a monster in human form, but that can’t be possible, can it?

Chapter 5

With no school to go to, most of my time was spent repairing headquarters. It was all because Akito was too stingy to hire anyone. He said that we couldn't risk bringing in outsiders in case they discovered the library, our weapons, the illegal shotgun, and his gunpowder stock in the basement. Akito said he had enough ammunition to blow up my school, but I think he just didn't want to part with his money.

The building had taken quite a blow from the fox monster attack, so we had to rebuild the living room, kitchen, bathroom, and study. Kiyori tried to argue that because I helped destroy it, I should repair it all, but Akito insisted that the physical labour was all part of our training.

"The organization used to hire more outsiders," said Souta as he happily nailed the floor next to me. "But then they arrested my uncle on suspicion of imprisoning young people and running a cult. He spent ten years in prison."

"I don't see why we have to make all the repairs," said Taisei as he threw down his hammer and began rubbing his throbbing wrist. "We're supposed to be monster hunters, not repairmen!"

"Doing repairs is all part of being a self-sufficient exorcist," said Akito as he walked past carrying a pile of new tiles for the bathroom.

"Cleaning the toilet is all part of being a self sufficient exorcist," said Taisei while impersonating Akito's stern voice.

March Writing Update

This is my first writing update in months since I decided to give myself a break. I felt pretty burnt out after writing Memories of a Soul in the Underworld over two years, and I just wanted to take a break and try some other stuff. Mostly Kingdom Hearts.

In order to do well you have to write a lot and promote yourself, but the progress can be slow. Slower than a stoned out snail, so sometimes it can become overwhelming and I can feel myself inching closer and closer to a mental breakdown, so I often have to give myself a break. I recently removed myself from Facebook and Twitter as well, because they are both super draining.

When it comes to Memories of a Soul in the Underworld I’m still not 100 percent happy with the end result, so I decided to take some time away from it, so that I could come back and see any problems more easily. I hope to release it as a paperback, but I already found a tone of problems with the draft, so I hope to do so once I get that sorted out. I live pretty far from Amazon, so it takes a while for any drafts to arrive to my side of the world.

How I was Murdered by a Monster King Chapter 4

Daisuke here. Last time we met I joined a secret organization of exorcists who hunt down evil monsters which are disguised as regular animals. My training was going great until a super powerful fox monster attacked and my teacher tried to kill me. Now my friends and the organization are accusing me of being a monster in human form, but that can’t be possible, can it?

Chapter 4

The exorcists agreed to let me temporarily stay with Sis on the condition that I didn't go to school. I also had to go to headquarters every day in case someone from the organization showed up. Sis was dead against it and threatened to tell the organization about the time Nina's brother did the other that, which completely freaked him out, but Akito convinced her to let me go in for observation just in case my super awesome exorcist powers decided to surface without warning. Shinta had important exorcist business that he had to attend to, so he assigned Hugo and Nina's brother to watch me. They made me sit in a cage and took photos of me pretending to be in agony to prove they were conducting proper experiments. Apparently they were a great hit back at the main branch. Shinta kept calling to congratulate them and I had to scream in the background. On nights when I wasn't there, they made Kiyori or Souta substitute. They were also supposed to constantly observe me and write about my progress, but Nina's brother spent most of the time trying to convince me to turn on my sister, while Hugo wouldn't stop telling me about his ex-girlfriend.

"One moment she was talking about living together, and then the next month she was packing her bags for Russia," said Hugo. "I just don't understand how anyone can be so cold."

"When did you guys break-up?" I asked.

"About three years ago," he said.

I asked if they could teach me any cool moves (I would need a bunch of them as a super exorcist) but they just stared at me blankly and mumbled that they weren't allowed to teach new recruits. But then an hour later I caught them teaching Taisei and Souta fire charms in the garden.

Both of them continued to believe that I was some sort of monster, so I hit the books in the library along with my friends to prove them wrong. Our friend Kurumi wasn't seriously injured, so they let her out of the hospital the next day, but I was told that Mana needed more time. I hadn't seen her since the night the fox monster attacked her.

"No, no, not this one either," said Souta as he flipped through the encyclopedia of 100 Cute But Deadly Obake. He turned to a page with a picture of a rhinoceros monster and held the picture up to my face like he was comparing us. "No," he said before sighing and putting the book down.

The Final Chapter

In case you've already forgotten, Akito, Nina, and I were all hiding in the study until the fox monster broke the door down. I didn't think things could get any worse, until Akito decided to back-stab me by holding a knife to my throat. I'm still uncertain if he intends to hand me over, or do the deed himself, but the sight of that blade caused my entire life to flash before my eyes.

I was busy contemplating whether I should call the tale of my demise How I was Murdered by a Fox Monster, or How I was Murdered by my Backstabbing Lame Teacher, when Nina's panicked voice suddenly interrupted my thoughts.

Chapter 23

"Oh shit!" Taisei cried.

I was still trying to comprehend how my approaching death managed to break through the impenetrable fence, when Taisei grabbed me by the arm and dragged me into the next room. He opened and slammed the sliding door with so much force that I was certain it would shatter.

Mana and Itsuki both jumped in shock and looked up from the charms they were painting.

"Taisei," said Mana. "Don't slam the door like that... Hey, is there something wrong?" She asked when she noticed the panic on his face.

Taisei threw me at Itsuki who put his hands out to prevent our heads from colliding.

"It's too late! She's through!" Taisei yelled. "You guys need to get out of here now. Find Akito, make him take down the fence, and run. I'll hold her off."

Mana blinked and her mouth opened and shut like she didn't know what to say.

"What are you waiting for!" Taisei yelled.
